14/06/2012 RALLYE ORENSE PREVIEW
José Antonio Suárez-Cándido Carrera returns to the Spanish championship with a Ford Fiesta R2.
José Antonio Suárez and his codriver Cándido Carrera return this weekend to the Spanish Rally Championship to take part in the Orense Rally, the fourth event of the 2012 national tarmac series.
José Antonio is driving a Ford Fiesta R2 prepared by RMC in Orense, a car with very similar specifications to the one run by MSport that he uses in the WRC Academy. The target for this comeback by the young Spaniard to his national series is, mainly, to get on the pace on tarmac with the R2 after his good start to the season on gravel, the surface where first two events of this year FIA series for young driver in the WRC: the Portugal and the Acrópolis have been held.
Although the next event of the WRC Academy will also be run on gravel, in Finland, the remaining three, that will compose the decisive second half of the season, are to be held on tarmac so José Antonio and Cándido don't want to lose contact with the terrain where they've got the most experience. That's why they are entering the Orense rally, an event they already competed in last season with a Fiesta R2 so it will be very valuable to assess their progress after a first season in the World Rally Championship.
The 45th running of the Orense rally presents a classic and very tough route, with twelve special stages, eleven of them to be run on Saturday while on Friday the rally starts with a short superstage. More information about the Rally at www.rallyeourense.es. |
